The preliminary Holiday schedule is out, but it looks like things are still in the planning stages... Because we have so many fun family Christmas Eve traditions, it's seeming like we won't be able to do it all that night!
So, I thought that maybe if we took this poll and had everyone vote for their TOP 4 favorite things (yes, you've gotta choose! and yes it's on your word of honor that you only vote for 4), then it would give us a better idea of what the majority wants... And if we have additional time, we can add more to the agenda...
Anyway, just thought this would help in the decision making! And, maybe if we can't fit it all into Christmas Eve, we could do some of these things at the Christmas FHE! Let us know what you think! --- Amy

k... i swear i only voted for 4 things, and the votes are off by one... who knows? I think this is a perfect idea to narrow the night's activities down. The closer it gets, the simpler I'm feeling it should be...lol. I think the seasons are stressful enough without having to stress on Christmas Eve and Day. Great idea Ames!!!
Okay Okay you guys... If you don't start voting, then "Black Hawk Down" with Dad is going to win!
Everyone, I think the ugly sweater party should be for FHE, not Christmas Eve. I don't want to feel like I'm in an ugly costume that night, but it feels more like a fun, silly thing for FHE.
And one more clarification...the loaves and fishes isn't just sitting down eating, but the message of celebrating the Savior's life that goes along with the simple meal.
It happens WHILE everyone is eating, so it doesn't take any additional time. That is what the slideshow would be...something during the meal itself, not in addition.
And awesome idea for the poll! I'm so glad you did this...this is just what we needed to get a clear picture of what everybody REALLY wants to do! You guys are great.
Thanks for the clarifications, Tiff... I guess I should have talked to the fam before I posted this poll!
But, even if this poll isn't that useful for Christmas, it's sure something that our indecisive family can use for future activities and holidays!
Thanks for voting!
I think I agree on the sweater thing...maybe better for FHE, although, do I want to look ugly at my birthday party??? LOL I dunno :)
Well, maybe we can make an exception and let you take off your sweater when you open your gifts...
As for the Ugly Sweater Party... unfortunately I can't alter the poll with out starting it all over... but I'm sure everyone would agree to do it another night...
I've gotta get searching for my own sweater, surprisingly I have nothing in my closet for the party (I just gave them all away!)
Don't worry...the ugly sweater party was the FIRST item I voted for! I'd prefer it for FHE, but who cares as long as we do it sometime!
I love the poll....TRULY!!!!
I agree. Let's do sweaters for FHE. won't THAT be a surprise for Santa!!! p.s. I'm voting that Blackhawk Down gets voted OFF. I wouldn't want MY husband locked off in a back bedroom on Christmas eve. I want him interacting with the rest of the family. Save that for Christmas day or after. Also, if we are going for a spiritual feeling, Loaves and Fishes go hand in hand with the nativity, and a (literally) 3-minute slide show that John has. I'm glad we're all voting...but maybe voting for something means more of the "feeling" we're shooting for...
Black Hawk Down was meant to be a joke.
I think there were some misunderstandings about the agenda which created the mix-up with the poll. First, I don't think it was common knowledge the slideshow was to occur during the loaves and fishes presentation because that is not what happened last year.
Second, I think the main purpose is to avoid a marathon evening, where we try to do as many Christmas-related activities as possible within three hours. Quality before quantity, function before form.
Personally, I think the feeling we want to avoid most is chaos. Things really do tend to take longer than you think. Three hours isn't that much time - which is why we should choose a few activities rather than try to do them all.
I don't see anything wrong with changing the activities up from year to year, either. Besides, as we are finishing so early, those who really want to do specific activities we don't do as a whole should have enough time to do them with their own families later on.
I'm probably in the minority on this view. What does everyone else think?
Sorry, that last post was mine. As if the whiney blabbering wasn't instantly identifiable...
:)

You're right, Marshall...I think it's fun to change it up from year to year, or things start to become meaningless. Traditions are fun because they can evolve! And I agree that whatever we don't do all together, we can do at home with our small families.
Kim-I agree that the meal, nativity, and slideshow all go hand in hand, occurring almost simultaneously. Some simple thoughts are shared over the meal...and really, that's it. If we did end up doing it, it would be the main event of the night, though only taking less than an hour.
I don't want to see Christmas Eve become a dead, beaten horse. I'm officially done giving my opinions! Let me know what time to show up and we'll have a great night no matter what we do! :)
well, 13 posts just seems unlucky, so I thought i'd write one to change that...
Does doing both loaves and fishes AND the nativity seem a bit much? I guess I wasn't there to know how long the loaves and fishes is. I think I'd also like time just hanging out with everyone...not having the night plum full of so many activities that we don't get time to chat and relax. I dunno how to explain it. I would like some spiritual portion for the evening, but also a fun, exciting party. Hmmm... How to accomplish both...lol Maybe I'M the only one that thinks this way so...whatever. I like the idea of less chaos, fewer activities. Just a thought.
